About EclipsesOn Wednesday, 11 August 1999, I was on Shabla Beach in north-eastern Bulgaria watching the last total solar eclipse of the millennium. It was an experience that cannot be described - an experience with subtle, gross, and aching beauty. It's well overdue, I know, but I will put up some better web pages describing it in due course. I had promised myself some 21 years earlier - at age 9 - that I would view that eclipse, as I had learned that it would be the one that would come closest to "home" (in Ireland) during my lifetime. Since then, I have promised to see as many more eclipses as reason will allow. I have written a Javascript Eclipse Calculator, an eclipse calculator for the Psion, and I've have done work digitising the lunar limb corrections for the 2001 June 21 eclipse. Irish Partial Solar EclipsesI have compiled a list of all partial solar eclipses visible from Ireland between 1997 and 2021. Javascript Eclipse CalculatorI have written a Javascript Eclipse Calculator for the eclipse of 21 June 2001. Enter your latitude, longitude and altitude into the boxes provided, and the calculator will calculate the circumstances of the eclipse from your location. Because it is written in Javascript, you can save the page to your hard drive, and use the calculator off-line! Psion Eclipse CalculatorI wrote a calculator for the eclipse of 11 August 1999, which is still available. I am in the process of upgrading - watch this space! Digitisation of Lunar Limb correctionsIf you are interested in the total solar eclipse of 2001 Jun 21 and in calculating accurate contact times for second and third contact, then I think you will want to check out my work on digitising lunar limb correction curves.
