GarRecGarRec is a GPS raw data logger for the Garmin GPS 12 and the Psion series 5. GPS Stashes / GeocachingThe GPS Stash Hunt is a new international sport whereby people go out into the wild, hide stuff, use a GPS satellite navigation system to figure out the latitude and longitude of where they hid it, post those coordinates on the internet, and then other people use GPS systems to find the hidden treasure. I hid the first GPS stash in Europe on Bray Head, County Wicklow, Ireland, and I've also uploaded details of a "Virtual" stash which is "on" the N11 in south County Dublin. My GPS Stash hunt web page has more details. The Degree Confluence ProjectThe degree confluence project is a project to take an organised photograph of the world. The idea is to use a GPS to go to a place where a line of latitude meets a line of longitude and take some photographs. Those photographs are then uploaded onto the www.confluence.org web site.On 21 May 2000, I got to within 20 metres of the confluence at 53° North, 7° West. On 30 Sep 2000, I visited 54° North, 7° West. And on 27 Dec 2000, while visiting my sister Mary and her family in England, we visited 52° North, 1° West. GridConvGridConv is a small software package for doing various datum and national grid projection calculations. It has since been superseded by the Jeeps package. However, I have archived GridConv here, as I know I will want to do something with it in the future! From the GridConv README :-
GridConv v1.0 is available as a tarball, and is being released as freeware under the GPL. In future, I wish to add a routine which will calculate the height of the geoid above the WGS84 ellipsoid for a given location. And, I would like to define an API which would allow folks from all over the world to write code for their national grid and incorporate it into one great package! Get in touch with me if you have ideas on this. Of course, once the API is defined, I would then take on the British and Irish grids. Last Updated: 3 Jan 2001 |
