What is a GPS stash?A GPS stash is "treasure" hidden by "stashers" in certain places, who then use a GPS satellite navigation system to find the co-ordinates of the stash, and post those co-ordinates so that other people can hunt for the stash with their own GPS system. For more information, visit www.geocaching.com. My first stash - Bray Head, County Wicklow, IrelandOn the 3rd June 2000, I hid a stash on Bray Head, County Wicklow, Ireland. It was the first such stash in Europe.
The stash on Bray Head has a difficulty factor of 1.5 - it is quite easy to get to, but only on foot. The last few yards to the stash are a bit tricky, so take care with children. The nearest a vehicle can get to it is to within about 20 minutes walking distance. It is about 40 minutes walking distance from the nearest railway station, which is served with a regular service from Dublin. It's preferable to wear long trousers - the most direct path to the stash involves walking over some low thorny bushes. == SPOILER ALERT - DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS AND PHOTOS == Go to Bray. There is a regular train service (every 15-20 minutes) from Dublin. Go to the seafront promenade, and walk south (i.e. with the sea to your left). Continue walking up the hill, over the railway line (which will be largely obscured until you've crossed over it), and keep left. You will be walking on a dirt path with the sea and railway line below you and to the left. This path is a popular walk, and it's possible to go all the way to the next town to the south - Greystones - though the stash is a lot closer than that. After some time, your GPS will show you closing in on the stash, and you will find yourself beside a ruin of a house. At the far end of the ruin, there are some steps. Go up those steps to the top, into the field, and turn right. The stash is hidden under some stones where the two walls meet.
